… and off to Studio Jakko c. 10.25.
Today’s work: fine-tuning THRAK’s gentler songs…
… then fine-tuning the instrumentals...
… in surround sound. A wonderful clattering with eruptions of banging-things being hit by drummers, often and repeatedly. A splendid noise.
At last! It is now possible to listen to the Double Trio in recorded format. I would have liked to see this team live, with the interactions and interplay. Much is going on in surround; much more went on live.
THRAK was recorded at Real World (1994), back from Argentina and in the early month’s of this Crimson’s life and existence. When I was not in the studio, I was in my room at work negotiating the Virgin contract (the first contract, the Virgin Standard, I tore up in front of Ken Berry and placed on his desk in Virgin LA). So, whenever I have heard THRAK in the past, by association I remember not so much the music as as the professional grief and dismality it gave rise to. Sadly, this is the case with much of Crimson; part of the price paid for:
1. the privilege of being taken into Music’s confidence;
2. receiving a broad, liberal education.
And now, a particular moment is almost redeemed.
Leaving Studio Jakko c. 14.35, arriving at WillyFred’s hotel c. 16.50. WillyFred is now home, eager for attention and play.
21.35 Practicing. A call from the Sistery Person in Vegas.
22.45 The Minx is home! Yippee! Arriving back from Bromley and rehearsals c. 21.45…
A light supper, and to gentle.
